As we cover KENPO and JUJUTSU into next year and Season we will refer to the Concepts for each
The 21 Kenpo Concepts
shirotoratiger.proboards.com/thread/1691/kenpo-concepts
The 32 Jiu Jitsu Concepts
shirotoratiger.proboards.com/thread/1769/advanced-jj-concepts-principles
As mentioned, JJ Concept 32 The Grandmaster
"Using the 32 Principles to continuously improve jiu-jitsu"
means to use the first 31 Principles of course
so we have 31 JJ CP in effect
"to improve the art through principle-based exploration, experimentation, modification, and creation"
also applies to KENPO
So this can be viewed as the 22nd Concept of KEMPO and the 32nd Concept of JJ
The Primary Principles of KENPO are
DISTANCE and TIMING
The Primary Principles of JuJutsu are
TIMING and CONTROL
which will be addressed in EVERY session where we practice these two Arts
Distance still applies in JJ and is Concept Number Three
Control applies in KENPO
- not a direct listed "concept", it appears underlying all techniques, in particular manifested in
Checking and Trapping
TIMING and CONTROL
which we manifest in NEWAZA as
Position - Transition - Submission
then the first JJ Principle
1. Connection Principle
Connection refers to being as close to your partner as possible, both in terms of attacking and defending.
Connection refers to creating movement, preventing movement, or predicting movement.
All of these are possible because you’re able to feel even the tiniest shifts in your opponent’s body positioning by leaving no space between you and them.
All of the JJ principles are forms of connection with your opponent
Preventing, promoting or predicting your opponent’s movement using the 32 methods of connection
If jiu-jitsu is the language, then connection is the alphabet.
There are at least 32 connections that we seek to optimize in jiu-jitsu. Once you master them, there is no limit to what you can accomplish.
The purpose of any connection, or combination of connections, typically falls into one of three categories:
movement prevention,
movement promotion,
movement prediction
Each connection is actualized via push or pull, and in some cases, simultaneous pushing and pulling.
When a connection is facilitated by gravity, we call it pressure.
The first three Concepts of KENPO are used in the KEMPO techniques themselves as well as the KICKBOXING Phase, both in the Breaskdowns and the Sparring
We referred to them tonight, indirectly, and will be rolling this over to the New Year and Season
1. Erect Posture
- there are many positive benefits derived in keeping an erect posture. It allows for ease of movement and quick directional change will also keep you from leaning and over extending.
2. Good Balance
- is enhanced by erect posture. The body, as well as the joints, must be relaxed and flexible to insure good balance. It also prevents you from leaning and over extending.
3. Relax
- relaxing enhances good balance. When the body is relaxed it becomes supple which allows for quick reaction when attacking or defending. It aids greatly in the acceleration of your strikes.
