In this post I advocate the effectiveness of Judo over the emerging sport version of Jujutsu and "BJJ", what we learnt from our teachers in Kyushindo, our system of Jujutsu, which Judo and Aikijutsu are covered in
This is just as relevant today, as we go into the next stage of our development, covering the Principles as we go over the Combatives
We are, of course, doing the same in KEMPO with the Principles for those
In "Stand Up", which Karate, Kempo, Kickboxing, and the Striking Arts cover, the main Principles are Distance and Timing
On the KENPO list, these are numbers 10 and 20 - they are not the "top of the list" though they are the most important
Stance, Balance, Relax
Speed, Power, Accuracy
Marriage Of Gravity, Torque, Backup Mass
none of these will work of you do not have the correct distance and do not have the right timing on your move and technique, be that "block" or "strike"
On the JUJUTSU list the first and two most important Principles are Timing and Control - the most important for the "Ground" - they precede the 32 listed
Timing appears again, as it does in Stand Up
Distance is Number 3
In the Trapping phase, and in Vertical Grappling, we see Distance, Timing and Control as being the three "Prime" Principles
The listed Principles for KEMPO and JUJUTSU will overlap, as they will in the TRAPPING Phase
The FORK we have mentioned before - as well as the Ground application we see it in Boxing - "if the right one don't get you , the left one will"
