RANGE

The Concept of Range has been written and discussed elsewhere on the Boards

DO AI is Distance

MA AI is Timimg

With the Arts and Systems that we have on each Phase, the matter of Range becomes relevant and specific

UNARMED

Ninpo Taijutsu
Karate
KEMPO
Wing Chun

NINPO TAIJUTSU is the longest

Ninjutsu uses the Ninja Sword as the primary weapon

In ALL Martial Arts the study of Wepons comes before the Unarmed and that is usually the Sword

The long range of Koppo is based on the Sword moves, on Not Being There when the strike arrives, and on Destruction of the attacking limb, which is what Blocks really are, and what we see on all the Systems we use

KARATE is next

Karate moves are based on the Bo staff of Ryukyu Kobudo

The Tonfa being the second weapon

The Range and movement of Karate can be seen in the Staff and then in the Tonfa

The powerful Block and then the Counters

Keeping in mind that the format and practice of Japanese Karate in the Dojo is based on Kendo, the same as Judo is, in the formal practice

Kendo is based on the One Cut One Kill

Judo is based on One Throw One Kill, dump him on his head and break his neck

So, in Japan, Karate Do is based on One Strike One Kill

This does equate to the One Punch KO off The Fence

KEMPO is Cloae Quarter Combat

This is our Primary Unarmed System

Though Kempo is developed as an Unarmed System and adds the Weapons after

Form Six Weapons Defence, the Club, Knife and Gun

Form Seven is the application of Double Sticks

Form Eight is the Application of Double Knife

KEMPO is about Close Quarters

The use of Stick and Knife links with the Kali practice

WING CHUN is the closest Range, the Trapping Range

We use the Jun Fan developments

We use the Kali Empty Hand drills

We use Hand Silat

The main WC weapon is the Bart Charm Dao swords. Which are of course the short, close range weapons designed to do maximum damage at that range

The WC Pole takes us back out to the longest range again

KICKBOXING

Savate is the longest range

Karate - kumite used in KB

Muay Thai - closer range round kick, adds knees and elbows

Boxing - hands only

WEAPONS

This is an obvious progression, the ranges shorten as the weapons do

Spear, Halberd, Bo Staff

Jo staff

Sword - long sword katana

- Ninjato would be a sub range, the shorter, closer sword with long handle, used with two hands

Hanbo

Short sword - used in pairs or single, same length as Kali stick

Knife - with three sub ranges, Largo, Sombrada, and Hubud
