Mount Control - the 3 strategies and then the advanced versions
Side mount control
Mount transition
Variations on
Mount escape
Guard pass
Mount control
Americana
There are 3 versions to learn for each, making a total of 12 techniques - when you then apply them left and right side, that is a total of 24 "things" to consider - one of the traits of STMA is the attention to detail that allows you to do dominate in the early phases of the fight at any range, the little details that the opponent does not know and has never been shown that will give you the upper hand
This applies to Grappling, boxing, kickboxing, trapping, chi sao, knife, stick, double stick, the long weapons, locks, chokes, throws, everything
Consider Hubud CRA - five wrist locks, elbows locks and chokes gives you 15 techniques - go left then right gives you 30 techniques - and that is before you add in sweeps, push, dumog, etc
R13 - side mount control - mount control
F13 - side mount roll prevention - mount Americana neck hug - guard punch block 1-2-4-1 - elevator sweep headlock - mount armbar
New Tigers eg Pyro will learning these for the first time, building on Ground Bud - Seniors will review and also go over the details in the breakdowns, as well as developing/sharpening the reflexes, and running a full Fight Simulation
We add the Outside Guard pass and Double Underhook - the DU thwarts the efforts of the Grappler to put you in a Choke or armbar from his Guard - we cover the scarf hold, side mount, and transition to Mount
One of the differences in STMA is that we cover Scarf hold in depth at this stage, as well as submissions from Scarf and Side Mount - this is not just a transitional stage
On the Inside Guard Pass you develop Mount control so you can stay there, then the variations of Americana
On the outside Guard Pass you develop Side mount control, transition to Mount then Mount control as a reflex
In Ground Bud, against a "standard" opponent, we do the standard Mount Escape, trap and roll, monkey pint
Against the Puncher we do the punch def escape
Against the Grappler we do the neck hug escape
Against the opponent who is bigger, stronger and heavier, we do the shrimp elbow escape to Guard - as we covered last night
Following that, whether same session or next, we will look at shoot, clinch, td again
Last mat session October we used the Kempo Dance Of Death TD and back stamp sequence to show it is not just about going to Grappling each time
We will NEXT cover the TD and front stomp sequence from Thundering Hammers extension as the Kempo option
We will look again at the use of the 20 Karate Sweeps and the first 17 "randori" Judo throws - you don't need to necessarily throw each other and certainly not hard, just appreciate the refence for a throw from the KB range after a punch or kick, and the trap grappling range from gi grab
Keep in mind a lot of the Judo forward zenpo, turning tenkan nage throws, if you follow them down, put you into the Scarf Hold
A standing grapple, standing headlock in a fight that goes down, puts you in the Scarf Hold
This will all be covered and considered over the next two or so Mat sessions
