Traditionally in class we have started with double stix and ended with kb sparring
Kali and kickboxing
The bit in the middle evolved over time
On the grass we still start with stix but don't end with kb
In taijutsu class you start with Junan Taiso stretching into taihenjutsu moving and rolling, then the techniques start with kihon happo
On the grass last week we ended with Aggressive Kempo, using well known and practiced moves like Delayed Sword, Five Swords, and using Alternating Maces as the basis for hard response
We will continue this for the rest of the summer grass sessions. The point is to end the practice feeling as if you have had a fight, a hard sparring match, a workout, so your Kempo is functional.
When we start the new dojo we will of course be finishing with kb sparring again. The seniors who have been doing summer grass will find that the Kempo in class now flows better into the kb impact and sparring
As we are doing chi São on the grass, we may soon bring along focus pads and gloves to add some boxing element and sparring
