The second grass day was a chance to work combatives and most of that was on the ground
Covered some kali - sinawalli and serrada over the 3 ranges as a way to break up the session
Looked at the 3 techniques in the Kempo Ram series where the opponent charges in with a tackle, possibly with a weapon in his hand for a running thrusting attack (this will usually be in the right and and low, and attack to the stomach)
we then progressed to JJ and worked the combatives in order
3 ways to escape the mount
3 ways to pass the guard
3 ways to stabilise
3 ways to submit with Americana
12 techniques, 2 sides, gives us 24 things to practice in this base drill alone - get this right and you may never need anything else
take the back
sleeper choke
remount
when taking the back he can roll left or right and you can be over or under either arm so that gives us strong and weak side versions of the choke on both sides from either roll
standing strategy now involves the shoot and clinch, then leg hook td to take the mount
once on the ground we have the arm bar
3 ways to take the armbar
standard against bench press chest push
single arm chest push
if he tries to roll, catch the arm and go from there
if he rolls from the arm bar
turns from the sleeper and you can't remount
or if you mount and he upas you
then you are in the guard and play guard game
we didn't do guard game today but we did skip to step 16 where he headlocks you and you defend
tale back
or take armbar
a more advanced strategy, from later in the game, is when we force him to turn over
so we can take the back
or take the side arm bar
this is Rickson's favoured strategy
shoot and clinch, td
mount
turn over
sleeper
"how does it feel like to die?"
many believe this is the perfect way to use JJ in a fight
Well done to those who attended today and worked hard to perfect this strategy and the techniques involved
