Sui no kata sanshin

The water kata, used when feeling defensive

Keep the attacker at a distance, matching distance.
When he steps in to attack, step back and to the side, so you are not there when the attack arrives.
Jodan uke to strike the attacking arm.
Raise rear hand to show attacker, showing a weapon of clenched fist.
Step in with power and intention to strike shuto to uko point.
The force and intent of the attack can be used to make the opponent back away and back down. It may make him try to defend the line. If not he will be hit.
The angle of the step means you attack down the centreline and the force of the strike knocks him back and down.
It is shuto on angle number one, the caveman strike, refined.
Though the intention is shown it is done in a deceptive way as it is a defensive technique. Also the closed hand opens to a shuto and the strike angles in, it is not a closed fist punch as it appears to be.

Like water we use this kata to roll away and crash back in.

The format is the same as the ichimonji koshi kihon Sanpo only it starts from sosei Kamae.

Step back in a straight ichi line. The lead hand points at the attackers face in Tate Nukite. The rear hand is hidden. The distraction allows the rear hand to take a weapon from its concealed place, whether pocket or belt. If no weapon is carried, it allows you to step back and surreptitiously collect something from the environment. An example would be a glass from a table or pool ball.

The strikes, first to the attacking arm then the neck are an example of the principle
closest target then most lethal target

An example with improved weapons is the lead hand throws your loose coins into his face and your rear hand attacks with car keys
