10 standing techniques in the combative series
we added 3 counter methods
the first of these is the sprawl against the double leg td
many people don't understand the sprawl and teach it wrong, they do it too compliant and have unrealistic ideas like putting in underhooks which doesn't work in real time
- the sprawl we do is against an opponent who slams you hip and grabs your legs
- you sprawl back and you are angled and one of your legs is still being held
- THEN you push your hips forward and drive your boots back and push down on his neck
- this is WHAT REALLY HAPPENS
- NOW you look at what he is doing
- if he stays and guards then you take the back
- if he tries to turn THEN you underhook and help him flip
this is Jiu Jitsu, you take what he gives you and make it work, you don't force anything
Anyone trying to tell you different has never been there - is unqualified - is a fantasist or wannabe or both
- we look at what HAS happened, to predict what CAN happen and have all the solutions prepared, the What Ifs and If Thens
Next we looked at grabs from behind
We don't allow or invite a grappling attack from behind, it just happens - so we have a solution td for each of the 2 major attacks
- neck grab
- waist grab
again we consider the 3 types of opponent
- bigger, stronger, heavier attacker
- striker
- skilled grappler
so we covered 8 tds tonight - 5 from the standing combatives and 3 defensive tds
With 2 pairs on the mat and one on the wood at all times, working in rotation, members were able to practice the entries as well as the actual tds
We did not have time for Judo throws
Rolling:
started rolling sparring until everyone was exhausted - which took about 10 mins
IMPORTANT lesson about energy efficiency - pace yourself in sparring
Iso sparring:
senior on the bottom of the mount working to escape
junior on top attempting to submit
if upa occurs - senior to pass guard, junior to submit
etc
also dem instructed a couple of FSDs
