Firstly for stix, both single and double, you need to practice karensa, which is shadow boxing with stix.
Think of a boxer, working the pads and bag, then bringing it out in sparring. When working solo, he shadow boxes.
Basically you do that with the weapons.
We will have a karensa session next week. You need to do line familiarisation so you understand the move you make on the air corresponds to a strike to the opponent or a block to his weapon.
For the longer weapons, sword and bo, it is the same thing.
We will go over some one step moves that correspond to block and strike with the Bo, and some kata moves. Kata is the best way to practice alone, though they take a long time to learn, so for our purposes we simplify them.
If members bring all their weapons next week we will do karensa training which you can then practice away from class.
