In general I am against video as it leads to video "Learning" which is negative. Some of our traditions go back centuries. Video has only been around for 20 years or so. I see nothing in the use of vid as a reference that is helpful, and can even be harmful. If you can't remember a technique or drill, wait til you see your Sensei and ask him about it.
If you see a waza on vid and try to reproduce it, you will not be doing what you think you are seeing.
If you don't remember it well enough, it has not been ingrained enough, so wait til your next lesson to go over it again.
Don't EVER try to "Learn" from books or videos. The damage it does to your development can take months or even years to correct. As a teacher I have seen first hand the damage these "aids" can do.
It is the reason I do not print a "syllabus" - a list of techniques to learn to earn a belt.
Drills build skills.
And drills need to be second nature so you DON'T THINK about what you are doing.
The only training aid I have ever found to be of any use if kata.
And in STMA I don't intend to introduce that until a higher level, brown or black belt.
Drill the moves you remember from class.
Don't use training aids such as notes, pictures, lists of syllabus or vids.
If you don't remember it well enough to do the move, DON'T DO IT!
Have patience, it will pay big dividends in the long run .
