2015 Vale Tudo

Anything Goes!

We do Kickboxing every week on the wood

We do newaza on the wood

We do newaza on the mat

We do throws on the mat

Mat Day gives us the chance to fill in all those gaps in the sparring phase

Shoot and sprawl
Ground and pound

On recent mat days we have been examining JJ closes and tds against a striker. This allows us to drill VT, which being more violent cannot be properly sparred, similar to how CRA needs to be drilled from hubud.

The next phase is punching on the ground.
Again it can't be fully sparred, so we need progressive drills.

Standing dumog boxing glove deals with this standing
and JJ 4 stage punch block series deals with it from guard.

For ground and pound we need to use pads.

All these elements will be practiced in Summer 2012 mat days so the seperate sparring sessions of kb and newaza rolling are bridged and there are no gaps in your VT game.

Mat day will be more opportunity to play Vale Tudo drills and sparring on top of the increasingly developing ground game, which is regularly practiced on the wood

We are going to go back to the old drills for linking kb to grappling and making the flow happen - controlled and safe of course

A year later we are starting to plan the first 2014 may days and we will continue our "ground up" approach, making sure the ground game is tight and then looking at how to get there as well as how not to get there

Last year we did indeed go back to the old drills of 2009 and 2010 - and these were examined on Grass day.
We also looked at the Ninpo Taijutsu overlay and went back further to the traditional ryuha.

This year we can integrate the arts that make Vale Tudo a unique expression and not get caught up in the "MMA" way of thinking which, as we know, didn't even exist when we first started this - back when Ultimate Fighting meant Ultimate and Vale Tudo meant Anything Goes

We don't believe in compromise

Vale Tudo this has always been an addendum at STMA. Yet at earlier clubs I was able to fun many successful Vaal Tudo sessions.

In 2015 we will look at the opportunity of having a mat day as a vale tudo session, combining full on kb on the wood with all out grappling on the mat

Use the fact we are top heavy with black belts now

And see what you take from vale tudo into other areas of your training
