Andy Hug and the "Hug Kick"

Andy Hug was a Kyukushin Knockdown fighter and Kickboxer, a K1 competitor.

Although his name is pronounced "Hugh", I have always called him "Hug", as it is spelt.

Small for a Heavyweight he was unusually good at high kicks as well as low kicks, often looking more like a TKD or Savate competitor than a Karateka.

He was known for his KO with the Axe Kick.

He also had a great functional version of the spinning hook kick done to the leg, what would be known as Revers Bas in Savate, which became known as the "Hug Tornado". He would land this with the solid heel, not bend it into the "slap" done with the sole, so it was more like a Street technique than a competition technique.

When we do this in Class we will refer to it as the "Andy Kick" or the "Hug Kick", often paired with the "Ben" Kick

Andi tries the Tornado, which fails, and follows with the Axe

Note the clinching and knee striking is Kyukushin, it is NOT from Muay Thai
