There are 3 primary ranges to consider
armed:
largo - long range - as in largo mano drill
medio - mid range - sombrada range
corto - close range, trapping range, hubud range
the 4th range is grappling
unarmed:
kick, punch, trapping are the 3 ranges
the 4th is grappling
with regards to arts:
taijutsu is the long range art
karate is mid range
wing chun is trapping range
in kb:
savate long range
muay thai mid range
boxing closest range
we will be doing more work with taijutsu drills, making kihon happo a regular practice, along with our kempo sets and karate kumite, to keep us used to using the longest range when needed
this goes along with using savate in our kb and largo mano in our kali, and of course the longer kobudo weapons such as jo, bo and spear
in Jiu Jitsu and shootfighting we stay out beyond kick range, at the outrange, then shoot to grappling range, passing kick, punch and trapping ranges
out beyond outrange is projectile range:
shuriken and throwing blades
crossbow and longbow
throwing the spear or javelin
firearms - handguns to rifles
Gyukushin ryu ninpo makes use of staying in projectile range throwing the shuriken, the closing to grappling range and going to the ground for the silent, below the sightlines kill
Ninpo Mutodori keeps us outside the arc of the sword and closes to the "eye of the storm"
Storm series kempo - stick defence
baseball bat
Tactics before technique - always
