We are also setting the foundation for MUTODORI Unarmed defence against the Sword, which we will build in parallel future sessions
We did not actually use the sword, though I have been bringing it, we have been working the Taijutsu for the Unarmed attacks
In GYOKKO Ryu the 3 levels are:
JO RYAKU - Taijutsu - Unarmed v Unarmed
CHU RYAKU - Muto - Unarmed against Short Sword or Knife
GE RYAKU - Mutodori - Unarmed defence against Katana Sword
The Basic MUTODORI is from Gyokko Ryu and found in the 3 forms of the Book Of Heaven
The KOTO Ryu has Mutodori forms in it's highest HEKITO level - we will get to those later
TACHI DORI sword taking and JO DORI staff taking are common in JJ Ryuha and particular the Aiki schools such as DAITO Ryu
KEMPO has forms for defending against Stick/Club, Knife and Gun, examined in Form 6, as well as in the respective STORM, LANCE and ROD series - we have covered these before and will again this year
In many ways the Taijutsu expressions of MUTODORI are the foundations for all defences against weapon attacks, and contain all the principles and concepts
